This course critically examines the complex interplay between fundamental human rights and the rapid advancements in digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI). It explores the challenges and opportunities presented by these technologies, analyzing their impact on rights such as privacy, freedom of expression, non-discrimination, and due process.
Introduction to the relationship between fundamental rights and digital transformation; human rights frameworks in relation to digital technologies and artificial intelligence; privacy, personal data protection, and digital surveillance; freedom of expression, access to information, content moderation, and platform governance; discrimination, bias, and fairness in algorithmic systems; accountability, transparency, and explainability in automated decision-making; due process and the implications of AI in public and private sector decision environments; legal, ethical, and social dimensions of digital rights protection; contemporary regulatory approaches and governance debates; critical examination of the balance between technological innovation, public interest, and rights-based protections.
